Ogun State has recorded its first international aircraft landing at the Gateway International Airport in Iperu, a development Governor Dapo Abiodun described as a historic feat. The aircraft arrived Tuesday, June 3, 2026, with over 300 pilgrims returning from the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

The flight, operated by Saudi carrier Flynas, flew in from Jeddah and landed at the newly completed facility, making it the airport’s debut international passenger service. Abiodun said the successful operation confirms Ogun’s emergence as a growing center for air transport, business, and investment.

The governor extended goodwill messages to the pilgrims for completing their religious exercise safely. He also thanked aviation regulators, airport officials, and other collaborators whose efforts ensured the milestone was achieved without hitches.

Located in Iperu, the Gateway Airport has been promoted by the state as a strategic asset for cargo movement, passenger traffic, and economic expansion. The seamless handling of the Hajj flight is being viewed as evidence that the airport is ready for wider commercial use.
