The battle for Delta South senatorial seat is heating up, with incumbent Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas facing a tough challenge from Michael Diden, also known as Ejele, in the 2027 elections. Diden, a former Board Chairman of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), has declared his intention to contest, citing widespread demand for change and his own achievements.

Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas has been credited with various empowerment programs and initiatives that have improved livelihoods in Delta South, including skills training, financial assistance, and agricultural support, earning him strong support from constituents. The Isoko nation has endorsed him for a second term, citing his legislative performance and commitment to the development of the area.

Diden, on the other hand, is banking on his experience and popularity, having won seven local government areas in the 2023 election, while Joel-Onowakpo Thomas won only one. He vows to win all eight local government areas this time around.
