Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested 81 suspected criminals during targeted raids on identified black spots across Asaba, the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement released on Saturday. He said the intelligence-led operation was carried out on Thursday, July 24, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and deny offenders safe havens in the state.

According to Edafe, the exercise was coordinated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, with support from tactical teams.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives raided identified criminal flashpoints, leading to the arrest of 81 suspects comprising 50 males and 31 females,” the statement read.

The suspects were arrested for offences including the sale and possession of suspected illicit drugs, as well as operating an illegal checkpoint at the busy Asaba-Onitsha Head Bridge. The Head Bridge serves as a major transit point for commuters travelling between Delta and Anambra states.

During the sweep, police also recovered substantial quantities of Tramadol and substances suspected to be Indian hemp. The Command said the seizures reflect its determination to break drug supply chains believed to be driving other crimes in the state.

The police added that all suspects are in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded. The Command further reiterated its commitment to restoring order and assured residents that similar operations will be extended to other parts of the state.
