Cameroon has secured $161.7 million in loans from the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group to support the Capacities and Skills for Employability and Entrepreneurship (CAP2E) project in the Far North region. President Paul Biya ratified the loan agreements on January 29, 2026, which were signed on September 17, 2025, after AfDB board approval in May 2025.

The project aims to address poverty and unemployment in the Far North, with a focus on training 6,000 young people and creating 5,000 decent jobs (40% reserved for women) over five years. Key initiatives include:

    .  Infrastructure Development:     Construction and rehabilitation of schools and social infrastructure

     . Entrepreneurship Support: Assistance for over 500 SMEs and nearly 900 entrepreneurs

      . Sector Focus: Agriculture and renewable energy, with sustainable solutions for climate resilience

      . Results-Based Financing: Disbursements tied to employment and business creation targets

The Far North region faces significant challenges, including a 74% poverty rate, demographic pressure, and security concerns. The CAP2E project is expected to stimulate economic growth, support women, and enhance social stability.
