Hospitals in Borno State have issued an urgent appeal for blood donations after dozens of victims were injured in a suspected airstrike on Jilli Market along the Yobe-Borno border on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
The emergency section of Geidam General Hospital received 35 people with severe injuries, according to Amnesty International. The Specialist Hospital in Geidam is also treating victims, with reports that 14 to 20 injured persons were taken there.

The councillor for Fichimaram Ward, Malam Lawan Zanna, said more than 20 people were hospitalized in Geidam, and two were referred to the Teaching Hospital in Damaturu. Nine of those receiving treatment later died.

Medical facilities are reportedly overwhelmed by the number of casualties. At least 56 people are feared dead after the strike hit the weekly market during peak trading hours.

The Nigerian Air Force confirmed it carried out airstrikes in the Jilli axis on April 11 as part of Operation HADIN KAI targeting terrorist locations. NAF has since activated its Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell to investigate reports of civilian casualties.
Health officials are urging residents in Geidam, Damaturu, and Maiduguri to donate blood to support treatment efforts as hospitals manage severe trauma cases from the incident.
