ARMY HANDS OVER SUSPECT, ILLICIT DRUGS TO NDLEA AFTER LAGOS COASTAL ROAD BUST.

Troops of 65 Battalion, Nigerian Army have intercepted a truck loaded with a large consignment of illicit drugs along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, following credible intelligence.

The operation, carried out on Wednesday, July 9, 2026, led to the arrest of the driver and seizure of the drugs.

Military sources said the intelligence-led operation was conducted after a tip-off from a credible source about suspicious movement of drugs along the coastal route.

During the operation, troops stopped the truck and arrested the driver.  

Preliminary investigation revealed the consignment was being transported to the Berger area of Lagos State. The suspect, however, could not provide satisfactory details on the ownership or the intended recipient of the drugs.

In line with standard procedure, the suspect and the recovered illicit drugs were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Lagos State Command, for further investigation and prosecution.

The handover was done by the Commanding Officer, 65 Battalion, Lt. Col. S. Adeojo.

The General Officer Commanding, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Adebayo Babalola, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism.

He urged them to sustain the momentum and intensify efforts to deny drug traffickers and other criminal elements freedom of operation within the division’s area of responsibility.

The Army reiterated its commitment to supporting civil authorities in the fight against drug trafficking and other crimes threatening national security.
