The All Progressives Congress has disqualified several aspirants loyal to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from contesting in the party’s primaries for the Rivers State House of Assembly. At the same time, the party cleared candidates linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The screening exercise saw a split outcome, with those seen as aligned with Fubara’s camp not making the cut, while aspirants believed to be in Wike’s political fold were approved to move forward. The development highlights the ongoing power struggle within Rivers politics and its spillover into party structures ahead of the primaries.

Party officials have not given detailed reasons for the disqualifications publicly, but the move is being viewed as a reflection of the current alignment and influence within the APC in the state. The cleared candidates are now set to contest for the party’s tickets in their respective constituencies.
