Algeria has opened its largest operating dairy plant in Rouiba, aiming to boost domestic milk production and reduce reliance on imports. The facility, built by state-owned Giplait, can produce 1,200 metric tons of milk daily and is equipped with modern machinery to improve efficiency and quality. This project is part of Algeria’s strategy to strengthen its dairy sector, reduce supply shortages, and stabilize the domestic market.

The government is also seeking foreign partnerships to enhance local production. Giplait is in talks with Russian group EkoNiva for pilot dairy farms, while Qatari group Baladna plans a $3.5 billion agro-industrial complex to produce 200,000 metric tons of powdered milk annually.
