ADEBAYO ADELABU TO RESIGN AS POWER MINISTER.

Adebayo Adelabu, Nigeria’s Minister of Power, is set to resign today, March 31, 2026, to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State. This move follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees with electoral ambitions to resign by March 31, 2026. Adelabu has long signalled his interest in the Oyo governorship race, having previously contested in 2019 and 2023.

Adelabu’s media aide, Bolaji Tunji, confirmed that the minister is aware of the resignation deadline and will do the needful to pursue his governorship dream. However, there’s speculation that the APC might drop Adelabu for Senator Sharafadeen Alli, citing concerns over Adelabu’s perceived controversies and electability.

Adelabu’s resignation comes amid ongoing power supply challenges in Nigeria, with the minister emphasizing his focus on addressing these issues. He previously announced his intention to run in the 2027 gubernatorial race in Oyo State, joining a growing list of political appointees preparing for elective offices.
