ADC DEMANDS INEC CHAIRMAN’S RESIGNATION.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is calling for the immediate resignation of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, citing concerns over his impartiality and the integrity of the electoral process. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described recent revelations linking Amupitan to a pro-Bola Ahmed Tinubu tweet from 2023 as “a grave affront to the integrity of our electoral system”.

The ADC has threatened to escalate civil disobedience actions, including mass protests, if Amupitan fails to step down. The party argues that an electoral umpire must not only be independent but also be seen to be independent beyond reasonable doubt.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has also called for Amupitan’s resignation, citing concerns over his ability to conduct free and fair elections. Amupitan has denied the allegations, attributing the social media posts to cybercriminal activity.
