Security operatives have taken an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission into custody and are interrogating an aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over allegations of voter data leakage. The arrests were confirmed in reports on Wednesday, June 4, 2026.

Investigators are yet to release full details of the suspected breach, but confirmed the INEC staff member is being detained while the minister’s aide is being questioned as part of the ongoing probe. Authorities have not stated what specific voter information was allegedly compromised or how the leak was discovered.
The incident has sparked concerns over the security of voter records ahead of upcoming elections. Data breaches involving electoral information can undermine public confidence in the electoral process and raise questions about safeguards around citizens’ personal details.
Both INEC and the office of the FCT Minister had not issued comprehensive statements at the time of filing this report. Officials said investigations were still ongoing to determine the scope of the alleged leak and whether other persons were involved.
Security agencies say they are working to establish the facts and ensure that any breach of electoral data is properly addressed under the law.
