The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service says it has confiscated smuggled goods valued at over N6.7 billion in just five weeks along the Idiroko border and other parts of the state.

Announcing the haul, the Acting Controller of Ogun One Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, said officers recorded 73 seizures between March and May 2026. The intercepted items include 1,759 bags of foreign rice, more than 10,000 parcels of cannabis indica popularly called “Ghana Loud,” thousands of kegs of vegetable oil, petroleum products, expired food items, unregistered drugs, and used clothing.

Afeni stated that trucks carrying smuggled vegetable oil, expired Maggi cubes, and unregistered Analgin injections were stopped along the Sagamu Interchange and Ogere routes. The drugs had no approval numbers from NAFDAC.

During the same period, the command generated over N125 million from baggage assessment and the auction of seized petroleum products. It also processed exports worth more than N1 billion.

To boost border monitoring, Afeni said the command plans to deploy advanced geospatial technology to improve intelligence-led operations and surveillance.
