Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Saapade, Ogun State, has organized a high-level security meeting to tackle the growing threats of kidnapping and armed robbery affecting students and surrounding communities.

The gathering, held on Thursday in the institution’s boardroom, brought together police, local government officials, traditional leaders, youth representatives, and student union executives. It was prompted by a recent armed robbery that claimed a student’s life and the abduction of five students who were later freed by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command.

Addressing participants, Rector Dr Sanni Kehinde described the security situation in Ode-Remo, Isara-Remo, and Ipara-Remo as a pressing issue that requires immediate, coordinated action. He noted that the forum was intended to foster open dialogue, raise awareness, and develop practical, long-term solutions.

Dean of Students’ Affairs Adedayo Musari gave details of the latest incident, explaining that attackers opened fire on a student hostel last Saturday. One student was shot in the chest and leg and died before help arrived.

The polytechnic said the session was the third in its series of community security engagements and aimed at building stronger collaboration between the school and security stakeholders to protect lives and property around the campus.
