Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested 6 suspects, including 3 teenagers, during a raid on a store allegedly used for the sale and distribution of illicit drugs in Agbor, Ika South LGA of the state.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Department of Operations during a routine patrol along Alegwe Street, off Owa Road, Agbor.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said in a statement on Thursday that the raid followed credible intelligence.

The suspects were identified as:

Anabel Haruna, 18; Terhemen Faith, 19; Kaityo Abigail, 23; Iorkee Eunice, 26; Osomuri Emmanuel, 31; and a 15-year-old female juvenile whose identity was withheld.

Edafe said a subsequent search of a vehicle linked to the suspects led to the recovery of quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol and other suspected illicit substances.

“The suspects and exhibits are in custody, while investigation is ongoing,” he said.

The arrests followed a directive from the 

Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, for intensified action against the sale and distribution of illicit drugs across Delta State.

Eralе warned that the command would continue to identify and dismantle drug distribution networks operating in the state.

He said the proliferation of illicit drugs fuels violent crime and other forms of criminality.

The commissioner also directed police operatives across the state to intensify intelligence gathering and enforcement against drug dealers and their networks.

“Delta State will not be allowed to become a safe haven for illicit drug trade or any form of criminal enterprise,” Erale said.

Investigation is ongoing.
