The 2027 general elections are already generating debate, with the government and opposition parties making different projections about what the outcome will look like.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa said he expects the APC to retain power at the federal level and also win in Kaduna State.

When asked about talk of declining support for the party in the North, Musa said it was more about perception. “People will always have the good, the bad, and the ugly,” he said. He added that the current administration’s economic policies are difficult now but will show results over time. “At a time, people will now realise that this is actually how it’s going,” he stated.

Earlier in the day, NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, addressed supporters in Port Harcourt. They said their focus for 2027 is to ensure votes count and that there is no intimidation at polling units.

Obi said the ratio of voters to officials makes intimidation difficult, and that the party will work to prevent manipulation of election results. Kwankwaso, on his part, urged Nigerians to choose leadership carefully. He referenced the 2015 election where a sitting president lost, saying having governors in many states does not guarantee victory.

The APC, responding through National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, said the opposition’s comments were premature. He noted that a sitting president had won re-election before and expressed confidence that Nigerians would vote for President Bola Tinubu again.

In Rivers State, the ADC also responded to comments by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. The party’s spokesperson, Chizi Enyi, said the ADC is focused on campaigning and is confident of its chances in the state.
