President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward pledge to the Super Falcons following their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Nigeria secured a record-extending 10th continental title.

The National Sports Commission confirmed that the players have started receiving payments totalling approximately ₦140 million, representing the naira equivalent of the President’s promised reward.

Tinubu had made the commitment after the Nigerian team staged an impressive comeback to defeat host nation Morocco in the final played in July 2025.

The Super Falcons initially fell two goals behind but fought back in the second half to secure a memorable victory and reclaim the African championship.

Reacting to the payment, team captain Rasheedat Ajibade thanked the President for honouring his commitment, describing the gesture as a welcome recognition of the team’s achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.

The latest reward follows a similar commitment by Tinubu to D’Tigress, Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, after their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket. The team also received $100,000 rewards after winning their fifth consecutive continental title.

The National Sports Commission praised the President for his continued support for Nigerian athletes, noting that recognising sporting achievements with financial rewards could encourage greater commitment and improved performances at international competitions.

It added that the fulfilment of such promises would boost athletes’ confidence and reinforce a culture of accountability, recognition and national pride within Nigerian sports.
