The Ogun State Police Command has rescued 11 Ghanaian nationals allegedly held hostage in Sagamu in a suspected international visa fraud scheme involving about ₦50.27 million.

The victims, comprising seven males and four females, were rescued on October 19, 2026 during a swift intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

According to a statement on Tuesday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operation followed actionable intelligence received about a hideout where the victims were being held against their will.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were allegedly deceived by a fellow Ghanaian national who promised to facilitate their travel to Canada and Spain.

Each victim reportedly paid GH₵40,000 before being brought to Nigeria, where they were held hostage instead of being processed for travel as promised.

The rescued victims are now in safe custody receiving appropriate care and support.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its prompt response and professionalism.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives, combating transnational crime and ensuring Ogun State does not become a haven for criminals who exploit people’s hopes.

“There is no safe haven for criminals who exploit the hopes of others,” CP Ojajuni said.

He said efforts will continue until all those responsible for the alleged criminal network are apprehended and brought to justice.

The Command urged members of the public to always verify overseas travel and visa processing arrangements before making payments and to report suspicious activities to the police.

No arrest has been disclosed yet as detectives intensify efforts to track down the mastermind and other syndicate members.
