A suit filed by ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, seeking to disqualify President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election has been stalled at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Atiku filed the suit on Friday, challenging the President’s eligibility based on alleged discrepancies in the NYSC discharge certificate submitted to INEC.

According to the plaintiff, the certificate bears the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle”while the President’s official name is “Bola Ahmed Tinubu”. Atiku’s team is asking the court to decide if the difference affects Tinubu’s constitutional qualification to run again in 2027.

When the case was mentioned on Tuesday, Atiku’s counsel, Joseph Onu, told Justice Inyang Ekwo that he had been unable to serve the defendant personally and requested to do so directly or through substituted service.

Counsel to President Tinubu attempted to collect the originating summons in court, but Onu rejected it, insisting on direct or substituted service.

After listening to both sides, Justice Ekwo adjourned the matter to September 28, 2026 for further mention.

Tinubu defeated Atiku in the 2023 presidential election. Both men are now preparing to contest again in 2027 Tinubu on the platform of the APC, and Atiku on the platform of the ADC.
