FCT Minister Nyesom Wike met with members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, FCT Wing, on Tuesday after they staged a solidarity protest at the Federal Capital Territory Administration Secretariat.
The teachers were demonstrating over the killing of Mr Michael Oyedokun and the abduction of other teachers and students from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, Oriire LGA, Oyo State. The protest was part of a nationwide action by NUT to condemn the incident and demand immediate rescue of those still in captivity.

Addressing the crowd, Wike said the federal government is actively working to secure the release of the abducted teachers and students. He expressed confidence in security agencies, stating they are “on their toes” and will do all they can to bring the victims back alive and safe.
The minister, however, warned against turning the security situation into a political issue. He pointed out that kidnappings of teachers and students have occurred in other states without similar protests in Abuja, and asked whether that meant FCT teachers were less important. “We are all concerned about the security situation… but let us not politicise issues; that’s what I will not support,” he said.
Wike added that insecurity affects the entire country and should be approached as a shared national challenge, calling for a unified response instead of selective outrage.
NUT FCT Chairman, Mr Abdullahi Shafa, earlier explained that the protest was peaceful and was meant to condemn the killing of Oyedokun while pressing for stronger steps to protect schools. The union submitted a letter to the minister outlining demands for improved school safety and the safe return of the abducted victims.
