The Nigerian military has freed Mrs Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, after she was held captive by bandits in Katsina State for weeks.

A joint operation involving the Army and Air Force tracked the kidnappers to Tunga Village, where a fierce exchange led to her rescue. Mrs Abubakar was injured during the raid but is getting medical care and is said to be stable.
Her husband, a former Defence Information chief, was killed by the abductors. The military says it won’t stop until it catches those involved and clears the bush of bandits.
The DHQ says the family is being supported through this tough time as Mrs Abubakar recovers.
