UNIBEN WORKER IN COURT OVER ALLEGED N3.28M DUAL PAY FRAUD.

An employee of the University of Benin appeared before an Edo High Court on Wednesday, June 4, 2026, after the EFCC accused him of collecting salaries from two government agencies at once.

Segun Bode Adedeji faces four counts before Justice E.G. Adekanmbi. The EFCC Benin Zonal Office alleges he drew N3,285,396 in pay and allowances from both UNIBEN and the National Orthopedic Hospital, Benin City, during the same period. That practice breaches civil service regulations.

Anti-graft investigators said the case came to light through intelligence operations that flagged duplicate salary entries on government payroll systems. The Commission stated the dual payments caused direct financial loss to public funds.

Adedeji entered a not-guilty plea when the charges were read. Defence counsel requested bail while prosecutors sought a trial date. The judge adjourned and delivered a ruling on bail based on legal provisions.

EFCC officials said the prosecution fits into wider efforts to clean up payroll fraud across public institutions. The agency noted it will continue tracking cases where workers illegally collect double salaries from federal and state establishments.
