President Bola Tinubu has removed Kayode Egbetokun as Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police and appointed Assistant Inspector-General Tunji Disu as his successor. The change was confirmed by a presidency source, with an official announcement expected shortly. Disu, who previously served as head of the Intelligence Response Team and Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, brings extensive experience to his new role.

The reasons behind Egbetokun’s removal haven’t been officially stated, but sources suggest it may be linked to performance issues and health concerns. Egbetokun, who was appointed in June 2023, had faced criticism over allegations of corruption and nepotism.
