Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled an attempted mass abduction by terrorists in Unguwar Rogo Village, Kaura Namoda LGA, rescuing nine civilians including an infant.

The military said the attack was likely a reprisal for the recent arrest of suspected terrorist collaborators.

According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the incident occurred on August 16, 2026.

Terrorists, believed to be led by suspected kingpin Mallam Shuaibu, ambushed civilians travelling along a local route. The gunmen had concealed themselves in a millet farm and opened fire on passing vehicles, causing some drivers to lose control.

Troops of Sector 2 responded swiftly, engaged the terrorists and denied them the opportunity to carry out the abduction. The assailants fled into the surrounding forest.

Nine civilians were rescued during the operation. Among them was an infant.

Two women who sustained gunshot wounds were evacuated for medical attention and are currently receiving treatment.

The Joint Task Force said Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to denying terrorists freedom to attack innocent citizens.

It added that troops will continue to sustain pressure to restore lasting peace across the North West region.
