Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked a military base in Ngoshe, Borno State, in the early hours of Wednesday, killing a yet-to-be-ascertained number of civilians and abducting many women. The attack occurred around 1am, with eyewitnesses saying the insurgents operated for hours using motorcycles and gun trucks. The military was able to repel the attack, but many civilians are still missing.

The Borno State Police Command confirms the incident, stating that preliminary reports indicate many survivors of the attack were also abducted. ASP Nahum Daso, the Police Command’s Spokesperson, said the community is currently calm, with the military taking charge of the area. However, locals are appealing for urgent security measures to prevent future attacks, as many residents have fled the area.

Reports suggest that nine soldiers were killed in the attack, and the insurgents set fire to substantial parts of the town as they retreated. The attackers overpowered the troops, making it easier for them to infiltrate the community and abduct many women. Residents are seeking refuge in Pulka town, fearing further attacks.
