Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, joined protesters at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, demanding mandatory real-time electronic transmission of election results in the proposed Electoral Act amendment.

The protest, which also featured former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, aims to ensure electoral transparency and credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections. A video shared by X user Imran Muhammed showed Amaechi standing alongside protesters, highlighting the growing pressure on lawmakers.
Protesters, comprising civil society groups, youth organisations, and concerned citizens, insist that the legislation explicitly include “real-time electronic transmission” to prevent ambiguity and manipulation. Some lawmakers argue the provision should remain discretionary due to logistical concerns, but the Senate denies rejecting the clause, citing “misinformation”.
The demonstration drew attention online, with protesters carrying mattresses and pillows, symbolizing their determination to stay until demands are met.
