A disturbing incident has unfolded in Benin, Edo State, as Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and top officials of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were targeted in a violent attack. The incident occurred during the formal declaration of Olumide Akpata into the ADC, when armed individuals trailed the party’s leadership from the ADC Secretariat to the residence of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, shooting at the gate and damaging several vehicles.

The attack, which has sparked widespread concern, is being described as a possible assassination attempt on the lives of Obi and the ADC leadership. The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, condemned the incident, stating that it posed a direct threat to democracy.
