The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a principal suspect linked to the vandalism of six transmission towers along the Yola–Jalingo 330kV Transmission Line.

The arrest was made during a joint operation by the police and the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, in the host community.

In a statement, TCN said materials recovered from the vandalized towers along the Yola–Jalingo line were also retrieved during the raid. The company noted that the operation was successful with the support of community members.

According to the police, efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate responsible for the act. The force assured that all those found culpable will be prosecuted.

Vandalism of power infrastructure has continued to affect electricity supply in parts of the country. TCN and security agencies have in recent months increased surveillance and joint operations to curb the menace.

The police said investigations are still ongoing.
