The Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command is on the lookout for an unknown woman accused of leaving an infant outside Blessed Clinic in Oru Ijebu, Ogun State. Reports indicate that the mother abandoned the baby around 6:45 a.m. on Friday, shortly after giving birth. The infant is believed to be less than 40 days old.

After discovering the child, the clinic’s owner promptly took the baby inside for immediate medical attention and notified the Oru Police Division. Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed that an investigation is underway to find those responsible for this incident. The baby is currently receiving care at the hospital.
Abandoning infants in public places is a troubling trend in Nigeria. In 2022, a case was reported of a baby girl who was left on the street and later rejected by orphanages, ending up in police custody.
In January 2024, a mother was arrested for attempting to drown her five-month-old baby, highlighting the severe issues surrounding child abandonment in the region.
