The Rivers State Police Command has dismantled an illegal security outfit operating as “Civilian Joint Task Force” in Tai Local Government Area, arresting five suspects and recovering three locally fabricated pump-action rifles.

The operation, carried out on May 6, 2026, was based on credible intelligence and targeted the group’s base in Sakpenwa, Tai LGA. The suspects, including three women and two men, were identified as Precious Mene, 31; Blessing Felix, 25; Barine Gaviga, 32; Joy Ndornyie, 26; and Muhammed Ibrahim, 35.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Blessing Agabe, preliminary investigations revealed the group was operating unlawfully, providing false security services. The police commissioner, Olugbenga Adepoju, reiterated that civilians are prohibited from bearing arms without authorization and warned that anyone involved in such activities will face prosecution.

This operation follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to crack down on illegal arms and criminal groups nationwide.
