Oyo State has kicked off a week-long celebration to mark its 50th anniversary, with a grand opening ceremony at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. Governor Seyi Makinde is set to deliver a keynote address, setting the tone for the festivities themed “Consolidating the Legacy, Navigating the Present, and Reimagining the Future”. The celebrations will conclude on February 3 with a gala night and dinner, where 17 former governors will be honored.

The anniversary committee, led by Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, has organized a range of activities, including health outreaches, film shows, a carnival, symposiums, and women empowerment programs. The event will also recognize notable indigenes who have contributed to the state’s development and families of deceased former governors.
