Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party announced Makinde as its flagbearer following internal consultations and delegate voting. Party leaders said his track record in Oyo State, particularly in infrastructure, education, and security, influenced the decision.

Makinde, who is currently serving his second term as governor under the PDP, is yet to publicly confirm his acceptance of the APM ticket or announce a switch in party affiliation. Sources close to him say discussions are ongoing with political stakeholders.

The development has generated reactions within political circles, with analysts noting that Makinde’s emergence could reshape alliances ahead of 2027. APM leaders say they are banking on his popularity in the South-West to boost the party’s national appeal.

The party is expected to release more details on campaign structure and running mate in the coming weeks.
