Kidnappers holding teachers and pupils abducted from schools in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, have set multiple conditions for their release. The captives were taken May 15, 2026, when gunmen attacked schools in Esinele, Yawota, and Alawusa communities.

According to reports disclosed by Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, the abductors are demanding ₦1 billion paid into a Republic of Benin bank account, two Hilux vehicles, food supplies, and the release of detained suspects held at Agodi and Abolongo correctional facilities. They also requested weapons and assurances that future laws would not criminalize their activities.
The group further demanded the implementation of Sharia-related law in Oyo State as part of the negotiation terms. The Muslim community in Oyo rejected the demand, stating that Islam forbids kidnapping and terrorism and that the criminals do not represent Islamic values.
The Oyo State Government has described the conditions as outrageous and unacceptable, warning that yielding would embolden criminal groups. Over 40 pupils and teachers were taken during the coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community High School, Ahoro-Esienle; and L.A. Primary School.
Security agencies have sealed escape routes around the National Park axis to prevent the abductors from moving into neighboring states. Authorities continue efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.
