All Progressives Congress candidate Biodun Oyebanji has been declared winner of the June 20 Ekiti State governorship election, with the Independent National Electoral Commission recording 319,224 votes for him.

INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, announced the result at about 2:00 a.m. on Sunday at the state collation centre in Ado-Ekiti. The declaration came after LGA results were collated across all 16 local government areas.
Oyebanji, who was first sworn in on October 16, 2022, is returning for a second term. Fourteen candidates contested the off-cycle poll, with PDP’s Wole Oluyede and ADC’s Dare Bejide listed as his main challengers.
The election was held across 2,445 polling units with 1.02 million registered voters. INEC deployed BVAS for accreditation and transmitted results electronically to the IReV portal. Oyebanji also won his polling unit, PU 003, Ward 06, Okelele, Ikogosi-Ekiti, with 326 votes to ADC’s 2 votes.
Speaking after the declaration, Oyebanji pledged to continue implementing Ekiti’s 30-year development plan and serve “with courage, compassion, humility and the fear of God”.
