Ogun State, Nigeria, is marking a major milestone 50 years since its creation on February 3, 1976. The state has come a long way, earning recognition as Nigeria’s industrial capital and second-largest economy, with an estimated value of ₦17 trillion.

The Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has praised the state’s progress over the past 50 years, citing its growth into a hub of intellectualism, industrialization, and political awareness, significantly influenced by the media.

In a statement signed by Chairman Wale Olanrewaju and Secretary Bunmi Adigun, the NUJ commended the state’s founding fathers and successive leaders, including the current administration, for their contributions to the state’s development.

The union acknowledged journalists’ crucial role in shaping the state’s history, serving as a bridge between government and citizens, and promoting peace and development.

The NUJ urged Ogun State to prioritize the digital economy, infrastructure development, and grassroots empowerment as it approaches another election. The union emphasized unity, patriotism, and accountability, calling on leaders to put the state’s interests above individual ambitions.
