OBI TELLS YOUTH: REJECT ETHNIC DIVISION, TAKE CHARGE OF NIGERIA’S FUTURE.

NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged Nigerian youths to resist ethnic and religious manipulation, warning that political actors exploit identity fault lines when they cannot compete on ideas. He made the call in a statement posted on his X account on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

Reflecting on the 2023 general elections, particularly in Lagos, Obi said public discourse shifted from governance, competence and development to tribal sentiments and suspicion among citizens. He argued that politicians who struggle on performance often resort to ethnicity, religion and identity to divide voters. “A divided people are easier to manipulate than a united people,” he stated.

Obi stressed that building a better Nigeria rests largely with the younger generation, not elderly leaders. He said it would be unfair for young, able-bodied Nigerians to transfer responsibilities that belong to them to older figures like 84-year-old Pastor Enoch Adeboye, who he defended as a consistent voice for peace and national unity.

The former Anambra governor called on youths to question every narrative, verify claims before sharing, and resist attempts to recruit them into hatred. He added that Nigeria’s progress depends on citizens choosing unity over division and placing collective interest above narrow agendas.

Obi’s message comes as political activities build toward the 2027 elections. He recently emerged as the NDC presidential flag bearer with Rabiu Kwankwaso as running mate, and has repeatedly emphasized unity, competence and accountability as the foundation for national reform.
