The Federal Government has approved a significant increase in the annual uniform allowance for nurses in federal hospitals, medical centres, and clinics, raising it from N20,000 to N80,000 per annum. This represents a 300% increment aimed at better supporting healthcare workers’ professional needs.

The approval was granted by the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission, and the new allowance will take effect from January 1, 2026. The commission directed that the allowance be paid to nurses working in federal hospitals, medical centers, and clinics across ministries, departments, and agencies through the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System.

This decision comes after months of agitation by the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, who described the previous N20,000 annual allowance as “grossly insufficient” and “insulting”.
