The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Lagos State Command, has arrested several suspects in separate operations, including two alleged deserters from the Togolese Army.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Oluwaseun Abolurin, said the two men were apprehended on Monday at the command headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, following intelligence from community engagement. 

“The NSCDC Lagos State Command, relying on intelligence from the community as a result of consistent community engagement, also arrested two deserters from the Togolese Army,” Abolurin said.

He added that the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and prosecution.

Abolurin said two suspected cable vandals were arrested on June 27 for allegedly vandalising armoured cables in Okun Ajah. Two other suspects are still at large. The arrest followed information from Proton Security Limited. 

A shuttle bus with registration number MUS 109 YH and the allegedly vandalised armoured cables were recovered. 

One suspect, 27-year-old Sontey Teihmah, claimed they were paid N150,000 to transport the cables by men in military camouflage and civilians who fled when NSCDC operatives arrived.

In another operation on June 15, suspects were arrested for allegedly stealing eight lithium batteries from Orchid Road, Lekki. A 44-year-old man was also arrested over alleged inverter theft, a case now before the court.

Abolurin also disclosed the arrest of a suspect for allegedly vandalising transformer earthing cables in Shogunle, Oshodi on June 26.

“We want to say unequivocally to Lagosians that the two suspects who are at large can only run, but they cannot hide forever,” he said.
