The Anambra State Government Nigeria  in a bid to curb the Monday sit-at-home directive enforced by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in Anambra State, has announced plans to introduce a pro-rata salary payment system for workers, effective February 2026.

Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, revealed that the decision was made during the state executive council’s end-of-tenure retreat, aiming to address the economic losses incurred due to the sit-at-home directive. The pro-rata payment will be calculated based on 24 working days in a month, determining workers’ monthly earnings.

Mefor stated that the retreat acknowledged the absence of civil servants on Mondays, citing insecurity and transportation issues, but noted that these concerns are no longer valid. The government aims to ensure fairness, efficiency, and sustainability in salary payments.

The move is expected to boost productivity, as workers’ absence on Mondays has hindered government business and revenue generation. The state government is also enhancing security measures to encourage traders to reopen markets on Mondays.
