Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has described the 2026 budget as a meticulously crafted instrument to consolidate the gains of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda, which is already delivering positive outcomes. In an op-ed titled “A Defining Moment for Nigeria: Why Staying the Course Matters,” published in newspapers on Monday, Idris emphasized that the “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience, and Shared Prosperity”vis pivotal to accelerating progress. “It is a commitment to reinforce what works, solidify achievements, and ensure shared prosperity becomes a tangible reality for more Nigerians, faster,” he stated.

Idris noted that the past 31 months have involved challenging yet necessary reforms to end decades of stagnation and build a more resilient future. Encouraging signs include expanding business activity, improved investor confidence, decelerating inflation, and strengthened external reserves. “These are not mere statistics,” he said. “They lay the groundwork for lasting improvements in Nigerians’ daily lives.”
Beyond economic metrics, the Minister stressed the need for *trust and transparent communication* between the government and citizens. He reaffirmed his ministry’s dedication to keeping Nigerians informed about policies, challenges, and milestones.
