NIGERIA GOVERNMENT SHUTS DOWN INDUSTRIAL FACILITY OVER SAFETY CONCERNS.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has sealed off African Refractory and Allied Products (ARAP) in Ogun State, citing regulatory concerns and alleged safety breaches. Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Dr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, ordered the closure pending a thorough investigation into the facility’s operations. Initial findings reveal discrepancies in licence renewal and production activities, contravening the Factories Act.

The shutdown follows allegations by former employee Bartholomew Aniemeka, who claims to have contracted silicosis, a lung disease caused by silica dust exposure, while working at the facility. The Ogun State Government has launched a separate investigation and promised Aniemeka medical support.
