The Nigerian Federal Government has praised Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele for her latest film, Behind the Scenes, which has broken box office records. The National Orientation Agency (NOA) described the achievement as a testament to Nigerian cinema’s growing global recognition and a significant boost for the country’s creative industry.

Behind the Scenes has grossed over ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, making it the first Nollywood production to surpass the ₦2 billion mark. The film has also performed exceptionally well internationally, earning over $111,000 in Canada and $190,000 in North America.

The NOA celebrated Akindele’s accomplishment, stating that the movie has captivated audiences “From Lagos to Toronto, from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas”. Akindele has become the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years, reinforcing Nigerian storytelling’s global appeal.

The success of Behind the Scenes is seen as a proud moment for Nigeria’s cultural and creative sectors, cementing Akindele’s reputation as one of Africa’s most successful filmmakers.
