The National Democratic Coalition, NDC, has convened a special convention to formally affirm Labour Party’s Peter Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Party delegates gathered to endorse Obi, pointing to his performance in the 2023 polls and continued grassroots support as key reasons. Leaders at the convention said the affirmation is aimed at consolidating momentum and presenting a united front early.

Obi, former Anambra State governor and LP presidential candidate in 2023, is yet to release a detailed response to the NDC’s move. Sources close to him say consultations are ongoing with political stakeholders.

The development signals growing alignment between Obi’s support base and the NDC ahead of 2027. Analysts say an early declaration could help with party structure, funding, and campaign planning.

The NDC has not announced running mate or full manifesto details yet, but insists the affirmation reflects the will of members pushing for a new direction in national politics.
