Libyan security agencies have taken two Nigerian citizens into custody following the discovery of social media posts that authorities claim incited violence and public disorder.

According to officials, the posts in question were flagged for content that allegedly encouraged unrest and disrupted public peace. The arrests were carried out after digital monitoring units traced the material back to the suspects. Investigators said they are still examining the posts to establish the full context, intent, and whether the individuals acted alone or as part of a larger network.

The Libyan authorities described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to regulate online activity and prevent digital platforms from being used to spread divisive or harmful messages. Security agencies have increased surveillance of social media spaces in recent months due to concerns about misinformation and content that could trigger tensions.

Both Nigerians remain in detention as legal and diplomatic procedures continue. Officials stated that they will be prosecuted under Libyan cybercrime and public order laws if found culpable. The government also warned that anyone using online platforms to incite violence or spread false information will face strict legal action, regardless of nationality.
