The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the detention of seven suspected bandits following intelligence-driven raids targeting criminal groups within the Soda Forest region and adjacent border settlements in Bagudo Local Government Area.

In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, the suspects were apprehended in separate operations carried out along Illo–Lolo Road and the Bakin Ruwa–Ka’oje route. The operations formed part of an intensified crackdown on banditry in the area.

Preliminary investigations by police revealed that the arrested persons were allegedly involved in supplying logistics to armed groups operating from forest hideouts. The command stated that efforts were underway to dismantle criminal networks in the affected zones and ensure perpetrators of violence face prosecution.

The development comes days after gunmen suspected to be bandits ambushed FRSC officers on a Kebbi highway, resulting in the death of three personnel. The attack has raised concerns over rising insecurity across parts of North-West Nigeria.

Security agencies noted that bandit factions have continued to use extensive forest areas across Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, and neighboring states as bases for attacks, abductions, and cattle theft. In response, coordinated operations have been stepped up in recent months to target collaborators, supply channels, and informants linked to the gangs.

Authorities reiterated that cutting off logistics and support systems is key to reducing the operational strength of bandit groups and restoring safety in affected communities. The police command reaffirmed its resolve to maintain sustained operations to protect residents.
