A Kano Federal High Court has sentenced Janet Theophilus Danjuma to five years imprisonment for investment fraud totaling N22,350,000. Danjuma, a staff member of Taj Bank Limited, deceived victims into investing in a non-existent Taj Bank CASA program, exploiting the bank’s legitimate product to gain trust.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured the conviction after Danjuma pleaded guilty to obtaining money by false pretense. The court found her guilty of violating Section 1(1)(b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offenses Act 2006.

Danjuma’s sentence was handed down by Justice S. M. Shuaibu, with no option for a fine. The EFCC investigation revealed that the funds were channeled into Danjuma’s personal account.
