A Nigerian man who was mistakenly credited N1.5 billion by First Bank has gone viral online after choosing a 1-year prison sentence over refunding the remaining balance.

The bizarre case was shared by @arhermadd on X (formerly Twitter). Ogo Ehosa Kingsley allegedly diverted the funds for personal use between June and November 2025.
In January 2026, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted Kingsley for theft and fraud. He pleaded guilty and was ordered to refund First Bank N272,252,193.59.
The EFCC had recovered N802.42 million from Kingsley and his family members, and over N300 million was recovered through transfer reversal. Surprisingly, Kingsley opted for a 1-year jail term instead of refunding the remaining amount.
