The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has petitioned Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu and the Police Service Commission over what it calls the persecution of a whistleblower linked to the Alpha-Beta fraud case.

In the petition, CDHR alleged that the whistleblower, who exposed suspected financial misconduct involving Alpha-Beta, is facing intimidation and harassment by security operatives instead of protection. The group said the actions violate the Whistleblower Policy and undermine efforts to fight corruption.
CDHR is demanding an immediate, independent investigation into the alleged harassment and victimization. It also asked the IGP and the Police Commission to ensure the safety of the whistleblower and to hold accountable any officers found complicit in the persecution.
The group noted that targeting individuals who report corruption discourages others from coming forward and weakens public trust in anti-graft institutions. It urged the police leadership to demonstrate commitment to reform by protecting whistleblowers rather than allowing them to be silenced.
Inspector-General Disu has recently met with civil society groups, including representatives led by Femi Falana, to discuss police reform and accountability. Disu said the police “cannot operate in a vacuum” and stressed the need for collaboration with civil society to make reforms effective.
