Nigerian travelers, including former Kaduna State Governor Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, were left stranded at Cairo International Airport on Sunday after EgyptAir flights to Abuja and Kano were delayed multiple times, sparking protests over alleged neglect and discriminatory treatment.

The flight to Abuja, MS877, was initially scheduled to depart at 9:00 a.m. but was rescheduled to 12 noon, then 3:30 p.m., and finally 5:30 p.m. without clear explanations or support for passengers. Makarfi criticized EgyptAir’s handling of the situation, comparing it to past incidents involving Nigerian travelers and foreign airlines.

Some business-class passengers were reportedly downgraded to economy without notice, and those seeking compensation were told only European passengers delayed over five hours were eligible for $600. Passengers, including those traveling for medical treatment, protested, accusing EgyptAir of abandoning them without accommodation or meals.
