The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is investigating a prophet accused of defrauding members of his church of N70.3 million.

According to officials, the suspect allegedly collected large sums of money from congregants under the pretext of spiritual blessings, deliverance, and divine financial breakthroughs. The funds were said to have been paid into various accounts linked to him between 2023 and 2025.

EFCC operatives stated that preliminary findings show the clergyman failed to account for the money and could not provide evidence of any spiritual services rendered to match the amounts received. Victims reportedly petitioned the commission after repeated demands for refunds were ignored.

The commission said it has obtained statements from several witnesses and is reviewing bank records and other documents to establish the full extent of the alleged fraud. The suspect remains under investigation and has not been charged in court yet.

EFCC officials reiterated their commitment to pursuing cases of financial crimes regardless of the status of the persons involved, and urged the public to report similar incidents.
