Six leaders of civil society organizations have been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission following allegations of multi-billion-naira fraud linked to former Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

The CSO leaders were taken into custody after publicly raising claims of financial misconduct under the ex-IGP. An audio recording reportedly surfaced revealing how Commissioner of Police Fakorede allegedly arranged a meeting connected to the matter.
The detention has sparked reactions from rights groups and activists who are demanding transparency and due process. They argue the arrests may be linked to the petition the CSO leaders filed against top police officials.
EFCC officials have not released full details on the charges or the conditions of the detention. The commission stated that investigations are ongoing and all parties involved will be given a fair hearing.
Calls have continued for the immediate release of the CSO leaders, with observers urging authorities to ensure the case is handled without political interference.
